Walk-In Freezer Not Reaching or Holding Temperature
The most urgent call we receive. Caused by a dirty condenser coil, a failed evaporator fan motor, a refrigerant leak, or a defrost system failure that has allowed ice to build up on the evaporator coils. We diagnose the root cause on the first visit and provide a firm price before any work begins.
Evaporator Coils Iced Over Completely
In a walk-in freezer, a complete evaporator ice-over means the defrost system has failed entirely. The ice blocks all airflow through the coils and the box temperature rises even while the compressor runs at full capacity. We perform an emergency defrost and replace the failed defrost heater, thermostat, or timer on the first visit.
Walk-In Freezer Running Constantly
Continuous operation without cycling off accelerates compressor wear significantly. Most commonly caused by a dirty condenser coil, a door gasket failure, or a defrost system failure that has allowed partial ice accumulation on the evaporator to reduce its efficiency.
Condensing Unit Not Starting
A condensing unit that doesn't start means the box will warm up rapidly. Typical causes are a failed contactor, a blown run or start capacitor, or a tripped overload protector. We carry these components for all major commercial condensing unit brands and replace them on the first visit.
Heavy Frost Buildup on Walls or Ceiling
Frost accumulation inside the box almost always indicates a door seal failure. At freezer temperatures, even a minor gap in the door gasket causes warm, humid air to enter and freeze immediately on the cold surfaces. We replace gaskets and adjust door hardware to restore a proper seal.
Evaporator Fan Motor Failure
The evaporator fan circulates cold air throughout the freezer box. Walk-in freezer fan motors fail more frequently than refrigerator motors because they operate at lower temperatures and under more mechanical stress. Fan motor replacement is completed on the first visit in every case.
Refrigerant Leak
A refrigerant leak in a walk-in freezer causes the system to gradually lose the ability to reach its set temperature. Symptoms include the box temperature slowly rising over several days, uneven frost patterns on the evaporator, and the condensing unit running longer than normal. We locate, repair, and recharge to manufacturer specifications.
Door Gasket and Cam Lift Failures
Walk-in freezer door gaskets deteriorate faster than refrigerator gaskets due to the extreme temperature differential between the box and the kitchen. We stock gaskets for all major walk-in configurations and replace them alongside any necessary hinge and cam lift adjustments.
